Our Story

Welcome to Dollin-Grice Little Bear’s Child Care (DGLBCC).

Our names are Holly and Amanda Dollin-Grice.

We’ve known each other for years, started dating in 2015,

and we became legally wed in August of 2020.

Being in a same-sex marriage,

and coming from different family backgrounds,

we are able to understand, accept,

and support families of all varieties.

There are a few reasons we decided to open

our home-based child care centre.

Firstly, we both love the energy and perspective children bring to life; as much as they learn from us, we can learn from them too.

Secondly, we've both taken classes based around child development.

Because of this, and our own personal involvement, we have

real-world experience working and helping children

develop in many different areas of life.

Another reason we wanted to open our at home child care centre

is because we love working together.

We’ve worked multiple jobs with each other in the past -

including Head Chefs at Loblaws Little Chef’s School, and a live-in superintendent couple for a 272 unit building in Midtown Toronto.

We feel being able to offer our services out of our own home

provides the safety, security, and warmth,

as well as learning in-home skills,

compared to a brick wall learning environment

that many other centres offer.

With all of our experience independently and combined,

we feel we are able to provide top notch

educational, nutritional, safe, and clean care.

By keeping DGLBCC centre small and our own

(i.e. not purchasing the license to someone's child care centre),

we can individualize our approach to each child, working with each parent/guardian to maximize their child’s learning experience.

Amanda

Dollin-Grice

Amanda is a 32 year old child educator

who has taken a few classes in

Early Childhood Education and

Behavioural Science.

On top of in class education,

she has hands-on experience with children nannying for multiple diverse families.

The amount of children care for at one time have ranged from one to three children, ages varying from 6 months old, to 8 years old, and essentially every age in between.

Amanda truly knows how to manage

a clean, nurturing household.

Amanda loves caring for children because

so often she is able to experience

the growth and development

each individual child accomplishes.

She also loves the sound of children's laughter; whether they’re playing a game

or doing an activity, she believes laughter

is essential for a healthy lifestyle.

Amanda believes each child is capable

of amazing things; we as a collective group

have to help the children explore

what their specialty is.

Holly

Dollin-Grice

Holly is a 28 year old Child Educator with an advanced diploma in Child and Youth Work.

On top of in class education, she has hands-on experience with children in multiple scenarios.

She has had placements and professional work experience in school systems,

working with children from kindergarten all the way to high school, on different areas of development.

Additionally, she has worked in group homes managing day to day occurrences,

as well as meal prep for the house.

She has also worked within multiple

children's mental health organizations.

Along with coaching summer t-ball teams,

Holly has volunteered and facilitated workshops with the organization Fearlessly Girl -

a girl/women empowerment organization

that works to uplift young girls,

as well as empower them to work together - rather than against each other -

to solve issues in day to day society.

Holly loves caring for children because she feels as though it is easier to help a struggling child than to fix a broken adult.

Everyone has the potential to be

and do great things,

they just need the right environment to flourish and discover their personal learning style.
